About Simplified Sharpening

My name is Conner Travis and my sharpening journey started many years ago when I learned how to make knives. I fell in love with the forge, fire, and sparks. There are many steps to knife creation, with sharpening being the final (and most important) one. Before sharpening, it’s really just a knife shaped object. Sharpening breathes life into a knife, old or new, making it capable of completing the tasks it was made for. I still make knives, but I know how much value there is in sharpening by saving time, money, and waste. Let me breath some life into your knives, I guarantee it’s worth it.

Frequently Asked questions

Nope! Many customers leave their knives on the porch before leaving for work. So long as we can access your knives, we can sharpen them. We always put them back where we found them.

I like to use Stripe, which allows me to collect payments via card. After sharpening, I’ll send you an invoice which can be paid online. I also accept payment through PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle upon request.

The three biggest things I can recommend are hand washing your knives, storing them in a block, and using them as they were meant to. Dishwashers wreak havoc on knives through strong detergents and general knocking around while being washed. The knocking around also goes for knives stored in a drawer where they can brush into other knives and dull each other. Lastly, don’t use knives as screwdrivers or crowbars. If you want to pry open a can or tighten a loose screw, your knife will pay.

I am a strong, independent, sharpener and bring my own power. However, I’ll never turn down a cool lemonade or iced tea on a hot summer day.

This depends on many factors, but 3-6 months works well for most knives, however, it is entirely up to you. You can also test your knives with a piece of paper. If they tear the paper or struggle to cut through, it may be time for a visit. If you sign up for my Reminder Program when booking, I’ll reach out every 3 months to see how they’re holding up and see if it’s time for another sharpening.
